The Ministry of the Holy Spirit Part II

In John 16:12-15, Jesus reveals a profound truth about divine timing and human limitations when He tells His disciples that He has many things to say but they cannot bear them now. The word bear means to lift up, carry, or comprehend something. Jesus wasn't withholding information to be cruel but protecting them from truths about His death, resurrection, and their future persecution that would have crushed them in their current spiritual state.

When we attempt to lift what we cannot handle, we suffer spiritual injuries with lasting effects. Consider people who entered ministry too early or those hurt by churches who now struggle to attend anywhere - they tried to carry weights they weren't graced to bear. We must recognize our seasons of grace and ask what God would have us do rather than assuming we can handle everything.

The Holy Spirit transforms our capacity in three powerful ways. First, He enables us to handle and understand what we couldn't before - think about how much Scripture you can now grasp that once seemed impossible. Second, He empowers us to be what we never were before, giving us grace for specific ministries and callings. Third, He equips us to accomplish what we couldn't before, providing strength, wisdom, and resources as we step out in obedience. God doesn't call the equipped - He equips the called. The key is getting our focus off ourselves and onto others, trusting that God will provide what we need as we step out in faith.
