Redeeming Love
Pastor Mike Popenhagen

Opening Text: Exodus 6:5-7 Therefore, say to the people of Israel: ‘I am the Lord. I will free
you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with
a powerful arm and great acts of judgment. 7 I will claim you as my own people, and I will be
your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God who has freed you from your
oppression in Egypt. NLT
The Posture of the Redeemed
Hosea 3:1-5 Then the Lord said to me, “Go and love your wife again, even though she
commits adultery with another lover. This will illustrate that the Lord still loves Israel, even
though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them.”
1. Redemption comes when we least expect it or deserve it.

2 So I bought her back for fifteen pieces of silver and five bushels of barley and a measure of
wine.
2. Redemption is a gift of love, not a reward for effort.

3 Then I said to her, “You must live in my house for many days and stop your prostitution.
During this time, you will not have sexual relations with anyone, not even with me” ...But
afterward the people will return and devote themselves to the Lord their God and to David’s
descendant, their king.
3. Redemption deepens our relationship with God.

How To Encounter God’s Redeeming Love
1. You must want it and accept it.
2. Repentance is the way back to God.
Isaiah 59:20-21 “The Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who repent of their sins,”
declares the Lord. 21 “As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who
is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be
on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on
and forever,” says the Lord. NIV
3. Live a life worthy of His love.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is
in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a
price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. NIV
